Training Information

Hemel Ski Race Club (HSRC) is a very successful ski race club based at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead. The club was formed about 30 years ago and has over 250 members, male and female, most of which are below the age of 21. We do cater for older racers.  Not all members are racing members but have joined to give their help and support the club as non-training members.

Full club training for all members takes place between 6.00pm and 9.00pm on a Monday night. The U12 age groups train from 6.00p to 7.30pm whereas the U14 and older groups train from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. This session is also available for the older and not so serious racers or those that might like to improve their performance incorporated with race techniques.

All ages and standards are catered for. All our Race Trainers, Coaches and Instructors and many of the race committee are “CRB” checked under the regulations of the “Child Protection Policy”, many hold first aid qualifications. We do have a minimum age and ability criteria for all our sessions. We do not teach beginners or people to ski. Our general aims are have fun, promote skilful and safe skiing, to train, develop and help established racers and to introduce novices to the sport of ski racing. The ages of the skiers range from 7 to 70+. Even if the skier is of a good standard regardless of age,  ski racing and training is inherently a dangerous and extreme sport and at times awareness is not what we require. This is why we restrict our minimum age to 7. The safety of all our members is the main priority.

Racing and Race training is not for everyone, it is much more regimented than "free" skiing and before joining the club we invite you down for a taster/trial, this is for two reasons. Firstly to see if you enjoy it and secondly to assess your ability and ensure we get you into the most suitable and correct training group. Contact the membership secretary in order to arrange a trial. These are held at various times during the year or on a Monday training session.
